Need to Know...STEP 1: COMPLETE THE APPLICATIONThe application for the 2017-2018 school year will be available on Monday, October 10, 2016.
The deadline to submit the online application, which includes the non-refundable application fee, will be Friday, February 3, 2017. All families are required to interview with a member of the Alverno faculty or staff. All interviews will be completed on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interviews will last for approximately 30 minutes. Interview times will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that all interviews must be completed by Friday, February 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. If you do not have access to the internet or cannot complete the online application, please contact Ms. Sara A. McCarthy ’05, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, at [email protected]. STEP 2: ADMINISTRATOR, MATH, AND ENGLISH TEACHER RECOMMENDATION FORMSAlverno requires that each applicant submit at least three recommendations for admissions. Each applicant must submit an administration recommendation form completed by your daughter’s head of school/principal, middle school director or counselor. The teacher recommendation forms should be given to your daughter’s current English and mathematics teachers. Additional recommendations may be submitted from a student’s pastor, academic coach, or other mentor. All forms must be received directly from the recommender by Monday, February 6, 2017. STEP 3: REQUEST A COMPLETE TRANSCRIPT FROM CURRENT SCHOOLThe Transcript Request Form Should be submitted to your daughter’s current school. The transcript must include her 6th, 7th, and first trimester of 8th grade. transcripts (including Standardized Test scores) must be sent directly to Alverno Heights Academy by Monday, February 6, 2017. STEP 4: TAKE THE HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST (HSPT) OR INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAM (ISEE)All students applying to Alverno Heights Academy must take an entrance exam as a part of the admissions process. Alverno gladly accepts both the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) for incoming and transfer applicants. Please follow the directions below based on the exam you will be taking. High School Placement Test (HSPT): The HSPT is Alverno’s preferred entrance exam and will be administered on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at Alverno. Applicants applying to Alverno are required to take the exam at Alverno. Once you have submitted your ninth grade application and application fee, you are automatically registered to take the HSPT at our school site– no reservations are required. Following the HSPT, students testing at Alverno will be administered Alverno’s English Placement Exam. If your daughter requires special testing accommodations, please e-mail Ms. Sara A. McCarthy ’05, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, at [email protected] as soon as possible to make those arrangements. Alverno is an inclusive learning environment and strives to make accommodations for all of our students. Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE): Alverno is happy to accept the ISEE from students who have taken the exam. Students who take the ISEE may do so at any school administering the exam. The ISEE must be taken no later than Saturday, February 4, 2017 in order to ensure we receive the official results as soon as possible. Please have the official scores sent to Alverno Heights Academy using our school code (053378). You may register for the ISEE through their website here. Please note that girls who take the ISEE will not be required to sit for Alverno’s English Placement Exam. Alverno English Placement Exam: In order to assess your daughter’s writing ability and to get to know her better, Alverno administers an essay along with the HSPT on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Students will be provided with five different questions of which they must choose one to write a standard five paragraph essay on. They will have 30 minutes to complete this portion of the exam. Please note that students who do not take the HSPT exam at Alverno will be required to complete their English Placement Exam either 30 minutes before or after their Admissions Interview on Thursday, February 9, 2017. STEP 5: ADMISSIONS INTERVIEW WITH A MEMBER OF ALVERNO’S ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY, OR STAFFOnce your application is submitted, you will be provided with a link to schedule your admissions interview on Thursday, February 9, 2017 between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Alverno understands that conflicts may exist within a family’s personal schedule and so interview times will also be available on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday, February 10, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Both student and Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will participate in the 30 minute interview. NOTIFICATION DAYAlong with the other Catholic secondary schools in the area, Alverno Heights Academy will mail Notification Letters on Friday, March 3, 2017, with expected arrival on Saturday, March 4, 2017, to each candidate who has a complete file. Additionally, students will receive an e-mail at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017. Students who apply after the deadline will be notified on a rolling basis depending on space availability. |
